ISR-2 Form: Banker's Signature Verification Explained
Form ISR-2 is how your bank confirms to the Registrar that the signature on your paperwork is genuinely yours. It is short, and it is rejected more often than any other form in the set — almost always for the same handful of reasons.
ISR-2 is the form we see rejected most often at ClaimMyFunds, almost always for a missing bank stamp or employee code rather than anything to do with the signature itself.
In short
ISR-2 is a banker's attestation of your signature. Your bank completes and stamps it, confirming that the signature matches the one they hold on your account. It is required when your current signature no longer matches the specimen the RTA has on file.
When This Applies to You
- Your signature has changed since you bought the shares, which is common with folios from the 1980s and 1990s
- The RTA has raised a signature mismatch on a transfer, transmission or IEPF claim
- You are updating KYC and cannot produce a signature matching the original specimen
- The original specimen signature was never properly recorded
- You are filing a claim on behalf of a deceased holder and your own signature must be verified
Field by Field
What to write in each box, and the entries that most often cause a form to be returned.
What to Attach
- The ISR-2 form itself, completed and stamped by the bank
- Self-attested copy of PAN
- A copy of the share certificate for reference
- Whatever primary form the ISR-2 supports — usually ISR-1, ISR-4 or ISR-5
Where to Send It
ISR-2 is completed at your bank branch, then sent by you to the company's RTA together with the main form it supports. Banks do not send it to the RTA on your behalf.

Why These Get Rejected
Across the files we handle at ClaimMyFunds, almost every returned form fails for one of these reasons.
How Long It Takes
Indicative timings from cases we have handled. The variable that matters most is whether the file is complete when it arrives.
| Stage | Typical | What affects it |
|---|---|---|
| Visit the bank branch | Same day | Go in person; several banks require the officer to witness your signature. |
| Bank completes and stamps the form | Same day to 1 week | Larger branches usually do it immediately; smaller ones may refer it upward. |
| You forward it to the RTA | 1-3 days | It is not sent on your behalf. |
| RTA accepts the attestation | 2-4 weeks | Processed alongside whichever main form it supports. |
What It Actually Costs
Indicative only. Stamp duty, notary rates and RTA service charges vary by state and by registrar, so treat these as what to budget for rather than a price list.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will my bank charge for ISR-2 attestation?
Practice varies. Many banks provide it free to their own account holders, others charge a small service fee. There is no SEBI-prescribed charge, so ask at the branch.
My bank refuses to sign ISR-2. What can I do?
This usually happens at branches unfamiliar with the form. Ask specifically for the branch manager and explain it is a SEBI-prescribed signature attestation for a share folio. If the branch still refuses, another bank where you hold an account with a recorded signature can attest instead.
Can a notary attest instead of a bank?
No. ISR-2 is specifically a banker's verification and a notarial attestation does not substitute for it. Some RTAs accept alternative documentation in genuinely exceptional cases, but you would need to agree that with them first.
How long is an ISR-2 attestation valid?
There is no universal expiry, but many RTAs prefer an attestation obtained within the last few months. If your paperwork has been sitting for a year, obtain a fresh one rather than risk a query.
Do all joint holders need separate ISR-2 forms?
Each holder whose signature is being verified needs their own attestation. If only one holder has a mismatch, only that holder needs ISR-2.
Can ClaimMyFunds get my signature verified?
The bank attestation itself has to be done by you in person, because the officer must witness your signature. What we do is prepare the form correctly, tell you exactly what the bank must stamp and complete, and handle everything after that with the Registrar.
